Toledo fell behind 3-0 to DIII Adrian Black in the first period and was never able to catch up, losing 8-5 Thursday night.
The Rockets closed to within 7-5 in the third period, but Adrian finished them off with an open-net goal.
For Adrian, the win was a measure of revenge. Toledo defeated the Bulldogs 7-4 on Jan. 24.
The Rockets, now 17-9-0-0 on the season, didn’t do themselves any favors by taking 10 penalties, including a major, and having to play through a full two-minute 5-on-3 disadvantage.
“We didn’t come prepared to play today, and you can’t take a night off against a good team like Adrian,” said Matt Bollinger, Toledo’s head coach.
“They took advantage of our mistakes and we dug ourselves a hole to deep to get out of in just 60 minutes.”
